Go, Go Power VCs: Saban to Fund Digital

The same folks who brought you Mighty Morphin Power Rangers want to fund your digital media startup. Saban Capital Group has hired Craig Cooper, co-founder of Boost Mobile and formerly a VC with VantagePoint Venture Partners and Softbank Capital, to lead a new digital media investment group.

Saban Capital is led by Haim Saban, who sold Saban Entertainment to Disney for $5.2 billion in 2001. The company was responsible for the Power Rangers series, among others.

Cooper’s task is to look at new media, wireless and consumer Internet investments, as well to advise Saban Capital’s portfolio companies on their digital media strategies. Saban Capital’s investments include huge media and telco companies Univision Communications, Bezeq and Keshet Broadcasting.

“No one has truly put down a flag in Southern California to support entrepreneurs in digital media,” Cooper told The Hollywood Reporter. “We want to do that and also provide true strategic value for companies.”
