aniBoom Raises $10M for Web Animation
aniBoom has raised $10 million in a round led by Draper Fisher Jurvetson, as TechCrunch first reported yesterday.
The second round for the Israeli startup was also led by DFJ Tamir Fishman Ventures and existing investor Evergreen Venture Partners, according to the release. The company had previously raised $4.5 million.
As far as funding and developing its own content is concerned, aniBoom is going further than most other web video portals are willing to; the company said it would put some of the new money towards funding animated short-form content for the web and mobile, and animated series for television. But the site does have the distinction of its singular focus on animation. aniBoom already offers its own web-based animating tool and pays out cash prizes for contest winners. Embedded above is a promo for a current contest in which participants are asked to make music videos for Radiohead’s In Rainbows album.
